A source-to-edition workflow with medieval charters

Abstract

The workshop follows a small group of medieval charters through handwriting recognition, TEI encoding, entity indexing and publication as a static edition. Participants work inside an AI harness, build structured project knowledge and compare generated transcriptions with facsimiles and prepared TEI data. The exercise makes verification and source relations part of the implementation workflow.

Learning objectives

  • Build a small repository with explicit project knowledge.
  • Assess model-generated handwriting recognition against source evidence.
  • Represent checked text and entities in TEI XML.
  • Publish the resulting data through a small static edition.
